The son of Kenya’s opposition chief Raila Odinga Junior held a meeting with the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.keRaila Junior hinted that the discussion touched on security matters.

“It was a private meeting which I can’t disclose much about, but I liked that he was very humble. We talked about the transformation in the DCI and future of crime-fighting,” he said.

On his social media platforms, the businessman said “It was a great privilege and honour meeting with the DCI head George Kinoti, He impacted upon me his great knowledge on matters security and law.

"He also shared with me his wisdom as a leader in showing me how he has modernized the DCI."

Over the years, the DCI has increased its capacity to deal with crime by acquiring modern equipment and collaborating with other security organs.

Among the many upgrades in the fight against crime that Kinoti has overseen is the acquisition of a Talino Forensics Workstation.

"The crime analysis gadget will be a game-changer in the manner we investigate and analyse crimes specifically; financial and economic crimes, terrorism, online exploitation of children, trafficking, malware analysis, and reverse engineering among others," the agency revealed in 2020.

The DCI also has another gadget called a Universal Forensic Extraction Device (UFED) which is able to crack passwords on electronic devices to help solve crimes.

The UFED can access the physical, logical and file system data and passwords (even if they have been deleted) from the widest range of popular mobile phones, smartphones, portable GPS devices, and tablets.

DCI Kinoti has also launched 0800722203 as the toll-free number that Kenyans will use to report crimes. This will help in ensuring crimes are brought to the attention of DCI immediately.

Recently, Kinoti unveiled a team of nine certified examiners who will be in charge of hunting down perpetrators linked to credit card fraud and forgery of documents.
