A Subaru with Kenyan number plates was the subject of discussion on online platforms after it was pictured in Namibia.

A flurry of memes followed with many taunting the owner of the driver as having stalked a fellow vehicle all the way to Southern Africa just to overtake, others joked that the driver missed an exit on Thika Superhighway ending up in the other country.

A dutch couple identified as Stephane and Lynne has since come forward as the owners of the Subaru admitting that even though they had been to Thika Road, an itch to overtake is not what had caused them to end up in Namibia.

They noted that their vehicle had gone viral as they embarked on their travels across Africa.

"We came to Kenya to experience the culture as well as the environment. We initially did not have a plan to buy a car as we wanted to use matatu for our journey but we realised you can not use matatu to get into national parks.

"We asked around for a car quotation in Diani and ended up buying a Subaru in Mombasa," they explained.

The couple later modified the car after conducting several repairs on it. They installed a roof rack to put up a tent.

"We found it expensive to sleep in hotels as they had spent most of their money in repairing the vehicle and opted to make the holders for the tent," they noted.

With the modification, they slept on top of the car when they travelled off-road and they also had extra space for food and fuel.

They even installed a closet to accommodate the wife's clothes in the boot of the car.

As to why they went to Namibia, "We were escaping the rainy season in Kenya"

They travelled through Tanzania, Zambia before reaching Namibia which they observed was an amazing experience - though tiring as they had had long driving hours.
