UK High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriot on Monday, May 17, broke into a dance during a school tour in Nakuru County.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the soft-spoken diplomat took to the dance floor to break a sweat to the popular Firirida song while on tour at Keriko Secondary in Njoro.

In the 30-second clip, the UK national, dressed in a blue flare dress, is seen attempting to mimic the song's popular dance routine.

She was being choreographed by a student at the school dressed in a white shirt and green checkered skirt.

The song went viral across the country in February 2021 - more than 36 years since its official release and spun a number of memes from stars.

Some politicians even adopted the tune as background music for their supercharged rallies.

Towards the end of that month, Murang'a County Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) broke into the dance after passing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill.

The song was recorded by Kikuyu vernacular musician Dick Munyonyi in 1986 who was a relatively successful musician at the time.

Munyonyi, a renowned musician who sang at President Uhuru Kenyatta's wedding, lost his voice just a few years after the release of the song in 1986 when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis.

He would post the song on YouTube in 2012, many years after he had lost his livelihood as a singer.

In January, the song had only garnered a paltry 1,000 views since it was uploaded in 2012 but by February 23, the song had slightly less than 500,000 views.

unfortunately, the singer did not make any earnings from the song in the first two weeks of its re-emergence until Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua intervened and a fundraiser was held on the musician's behalf.
