National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya vowed to resign if the Jubilee party would not clinch the Rurii ward seat in the by-elections slated for Monday, May 18.

Kimunya made the remarks in a video recorded on May 9, 2021 during a function in ACK Passenga Parish, Nyandarua County.

"I would not want to be in a position where I am the Majority leader in the jubilee government and our candidate does not clinch the seat," Kimunya stated in his native Kikuyu dialect.

"If we lose, I would rather resign, but I am certain that come May 18, Nyandarua people will unanimously vote for our Jubilee candidate. We will not just win, but win with a landslide," he added.

Kimunya had indicated that Nyandarua was President Uhuru Kenyatta's backyard and told rival parties to look for elective seats in other Counties.

"We have an ongoing case with the UDA party because they used the registration of the PDR party which had formed a partnership with Jubilee," he stated.

Following the by-elections on Tuesday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared UDA's candidate Francis Muraya as the winner of the Rurii Ward mini-poll.

"UDA’s Githaiga, Francis Muraya has been declared duly elected Member of County Assembly for Rurii CAW in Nyandarua County," IEBC stated.

Muraya trounced Jubilee’s Peter Thinji.

Deputy President welcomed the win taking to his social media pages to thank his allies for delivering he victory to his hustler nation.

"We thank God for Hustler nation victory in Juja and Rurii and the awesome show in Bonchari. A big congratulations to all our hustler teams for a sterling performance against all odds. Congratulations our competitors, let's keep it issue-based and pull together," he said.

The seat fell vacant in January following the death of area County Representative John Mburu popularly referred to as Wamaria after a long battle with cancer.
