Chaos broke out at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Saturday, May 22, after police officers arrested several passengers.

The officers arrested passengers who allegedly did not have proof of accommodation at their destinations.

In a one minute 24 second video, the passengers were seen being forcefully dragged outside the terminal by the officers as other travelers heckled.

On the other hand, some of the travelers took out their phones to record the situation.

Proof of accommodation is when passengers show their hotel vouchers, proof of sponsorship or a tour guide receipt to show that you have a legal reason of flying to your destination.

It also shows that you have sufficient means to cater for your stay in the destination country.

Different countries have varying conditions that have to be met before a passenger is allowed to board a flight to their destination.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kenyan government has heightened the requirements for travel in order to curb the spread of the disease.

All travelers are required to carry evidence of a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 96 hours of flying that can be verified digitally through the Trusted Travel Initiative (TT) system and the PanaBios system.

Earlier on Saturday, radio presenter Gidi Ogigi (Gidi Gidi) disclosed that an airline locked him out at the boarding gate on May 19, 2021.

He narrated that he had to involuntarily give up his seat and return back home, missing his daughter's birthday party in France

The incident was occasioned by a last-minute hitch aligned with the new Covid-19 regulations.
