Teachers at Ainamoi Secondary School, Kericho have spoken on the puzzling behaviour of the Form 3 student who drilled a nail into the principal's head on Wednesday, June 9.
The student surrendered at Kapsoit Police Station on Thursday, June 17, and recorded a statement prior to police commencing with investigations into the matter.
His teachers were astounded by the assault on the school head, Geoffrey Rono, as the learner was reported to be disciplined and an excellent academic performer.
According to the teachers, the 16-year-old was loved by students and teachers and had no record of indiscipline cases.
"It took everyone by surprise that he attacked the principal and inflicted serious injuries over fees arrears.
"It is a matter of great concern to the community and the school,” a teacher at the school disclosed.
He was reported to be active in both co-curriculum and curriculum activities.
Teachers were puzzled as to why he never reached out to ask for aid in offsetting the Ksh7,000 fee arrear.
At the police station, the student was received by Kericho County Police Commander, Silas Gichunge, who acknowledged that the learner was accompanied by a guardian.
“It is true that the student, in the company of a relative, surrendered to the police and will be processed to appear in court in relation to the incident,” Gichunge stated.
The headteacher is currently under treatment after undergoing minor surgery.
