The case involving the disappearance of security analyst Mwenda Mbijiwe, a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer, has taken a twist after the car he was last spotted in, was recovered.

Edward Mwangi, the businessman who had hired his car to Mbijiwe, noted that on the day the former KDF officer went missing, he had called Mbijiwe to find out when he would return his car.

According to the businessman, they had an agreement with Mbijiwe to hire the car for three weeks until Saturday, June 12.

Mbijiwe, a former Meru Gubernatorial contestant, informed him that he was engaged in a security training session on Mombasa road, Nairobi, and would call him later on. Reports show that he runs security business operations in several counties including Embu and Meru.

Mwangi affirmed that the ex-KDF officer called at around 5.30 pm and indicated that he wanted to continue using the car to travel to Meru County in order to visit a sick relative.

He, however, noted that since Mbijiwe was referred to by a mutual friend, he obliged the request.

“I had no reason to doubt Mbijiwe since he had been referred to me by a respectable member of the society,’’ Mwangi stated.

The businessman disclosed that he charged his client Ksh3,500 a day for the vehicle and that the security expert owed him Ksh24,500 after paying Ksh49,000.

The following day, when Mwangi called him, Mbijiwe was unresponsive and later his phone went off.

Through the tracking device, Mwangi affirmed that he traced the car to Kasarani that morning. Later on, the device indicated that the car was in Kahawa West.

When the businessman resorted to collect his car, he found it parked along the Kamiti Corner area.

He noted that he found the vehicle parked, with the doors vandalised, keys missing and the radiator plugged off.

The businessman pointed out that he presented himself to the DCI offices in Nairobi in order to clear the air on his involvement with Mbijiwe.

The news comes as the security expert went missing on Saturday, June 12. His family reported the matter to police on Thursday, June 17 after failing to locate him for five days.
