The police report further detailed that the officer was pronounced dead on arrival at Nairobi hospital.

The body is currently awaiting to be transferred to Kenyatta University mortuary as the police continue with their investigations.

Waiganjo came into the spotlight early this year after claims that she had been married to two junior officers surfaced online.

A report by a local daily had branded her as a bigamist, claiming that she had been married to inspector David Murimi as well as David Mbitu Muchi, a junior officer in the prisons service.

The reports were however debunked by a source privy to the matter. They affirmed to Kenyans.co.ke, that Waiganjo's first marriage with Murimi had been dissolved in court.

The source alleged that Waiganjo had been the subject of numerous physical and verbal abuse to the extent of been hospitalised.

"The assault case was reported at Kikuyu police station but David Murimi being a police officer, she felt it was prudent to protect the image of the National Police service," the source disclosed.

Waiganjo, through court documents, also alleged to have received threats after filing for divorce from the officer. The allegations were however disputed by Murimi who challenged Waiganjo to table evidence of her claims in court.

The court, however, ruled in favour of Waiganjo.

"It is ordered that the marriage celebrated between Waiganjo and Murimi on September 18, 2012, be and is hereby dissolved," read part of the ruling.
