Rewilding Project in Kenya

An entire herd of 13 elephants from a British zoo will be released into the wild in Kenya in what conservationists have hailed as a world first. The elephants live at Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent, southern England, and will be flown to Kenya according to a press release from animal conservation charity the Aspinall Foundation Tuesday. None of the animals has ever lived in the wild.

The Kenyan Government  on its part has claimed that it was not consulted by the Aspinall Foundation in its plan to relocate the 13 elephants from the UK hence complicating the activity slated for 2022.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism, the state also claimed that rehabilitation and relocation of an animal from a zoo was an expensive affair.

"The Ministry wants to state that neither they nor the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) have been contacted or consulted on the matter

"Relocation and rehabilitation of an animal from from a zoo is not easy and is an expensive affair," read the statement in part.
