Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been handed a reprieve after the ballistic report of the shooting that resulted in the death of Ngumbao Jola in October 2019 in Ganda Ward, in the Kilifi sub-county came out on Thursday, July 8.

According to the report, Jumwa did not shoot dead the man in an incident that occurred on October 29, 2019, during the Ganda Ward by-election which was rocked by chaos.

It occurred when Jumwa stormed a political meeting organized by ODM which resulted in the shooting of 48-year-old Gumbao.

The report has implicated her bodyguard Geoffrey Otieno Okuto in the shooting.

However, Jumwa is not free yet as the Director Of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has requested the files so as to go through the report before making the decision on the murder case.

Jumwa’s defense team on the other side is pushing the DPP to throw out the case and clear her name of the murder case.

Following the report’s findings, Jumwa who used to be accompanied by Okuto -who was reportedly also her lover- turned her back on him.

Jumwa has asked the Mombasa court to immediately withdraw the legal services she had hired for her bodyguard.

“Mr Okuto was served with the application seeking to withdraw the surety, and he is aware (of it),” Omari told the court.

She also asked the court to cancel the bond which her daughter had stood in surety of Okuto.

“Since Jumwa has instructed the lawyers not to represent me, I ask the court to give me more time to look for an advocate. I request for the court’s indulgence,” he stated.

After considering his request, the court adjourned the case.

Jumwa and her bodyguard were together charged in 2019. They denied killing Jola on October 15, 2019 at the home of the Ganda  MCA  Reuben Katana.
