Detectives from the Directorate of the Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday night, July 8, cornered a Boda Boda gang plying the Outering road in Nairobi.
In a statement, DCI revealed that Buruburu-based officers have fatally shot down three suspicious men who were spotted riding on an unmarked motorcycle past curfew hours.
The three were ordered to stop by the officers but defied the command, instead, they fled off.DCI detectives probe a crime scene in Kenya.
The hot chase between officers and the three men ensued up to Saika when they abandoned their motorcycle and took off on foot.
“A hot chase ensued before the suspects were intercepted at Saika stage, where they abandoned the motorcycle and took to their heels,” DCI stated.
The officers called for a backup team of officers from Obama and Kayole stations who ambushed them at the Mwengenye-Dandora bridge.
They tried to resist arrest with one of them pulling out a gun which forced the police to react, leaving the trio fatally injured.
The crime Scene Investigation detectives processed the scene recovering a firearm loaded with two rounds of ammo and a Somali dagger.
The detectives also unmasked the new way which the boda boda gang had devised to conceal their identity of wearing multiple clothes.
“The gunned down men were also found to have worn multiple pairs of clothes, and detectives believe it is a new style being adopted by criminal gangs, to dispose of the outer clothing after fleeing the crime scenes, hence reducing chances of their trail,” DCI stated.
Earlier last month, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai formed a special unit to deal with increased muggings, murders, and robbery with violence cases in Nairobi.
Mutyambai noted that the new anti-mugging squad targeted all cases including those of rowdy boda boda operators. The Machakos High Court ordered a local bank to pay a boda boda rider Ksh2 million as compensation for using his images without consent.Filecriminal fatal violence gun murder arrest probe suspect
