Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Sunday, July 11, revealed findings of what really transpired in the deaths of three people in Kilifi.
In a statement, the IG noted that the three, Sidik Anwarali Sumra, Rahil Zulfikar Mamdani and James Kazungu, had gone to the area to inspect a parcel of land.
He further disclosed that they were attacked using blunt objects before their car was set ablaze.
"We are deeply dismayed by the brutal murder of three men in Kilifi County on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
"Our preliminary findings show the trio, identified as Sidik Anwarali Sumra, Rahil Zulfikar Mamdani and James Kazungu, were attacked and killed with sharp and blunt objects, as they surveyed a parcel of land they wanted to buy," read the statement in part.
The IG cautioned leaders using innocent Kenyans in attacks to be weary noting that investigations into their activities were in full force.
He further indicated the service had taken statements from family members as the hunt for the perpetrators rages on.
"We have since met with the families of the victims in a bid to get to the bottom of what transpired. The information they have provided will be used by the investigating team as we seek to resolve the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice
"The National Police Service (NPS) has stepped up investigations and will adopt a more rigorous approach into unearthing the motive as well as those involved in the heinous murders regardless of their social, political or economic status," continued Mutyambai.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata had confirmed that the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 7, at around 8 p.m.
The three victims were a man, his son, and their farmhand and the residents claimed that they mistook the three as kidnappers who were on prowl in the region.
Cases of kidnapping have increased in various places across the country.
