The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) based in Geneva has released an official statement on the role Kenya played in the arrest and repatriation of Nigerian Leader Nnamdi Kanu.

IHRC through a statement signed by Africa Special Envoy, Evans M.Mutavi, and the IHRC International President for Kenya declared that their independent investigations into the matter found out that Kenya did not violate any human rights in the events that led to the arrest of Kanu.

“The commission upon investigation is unable to establish a case of human rights violation of Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya by the special Police Forces.

The statement added that the investigations could not establish any link between Kenyan authorities and the arrest and repatriation of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

“The Commission is convinced that the Kenyan Government played no official role in the event that led to Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest.

The body has urged Nigeria to follow up to ensure Kanu goes through trial.

“The Commission expects the Nigerian Government to follow up the trial of Nnamdi Kanu in line with the country’s laws and respect to human rights.

In a statement dated July 7, 2021, IHRC stated that they had received more than 25 petitions, especially from Nigeria on the arrest of Nnamdi.

The Biafra group which reportedly signed most of the petitions has been accusing Kenya of being behind the events that led to the repatriation of their leader.

They claimed that Kenya tortured Kanu and even decided to hold on to his passport.

They further pushed their members to boycott Kenyan products for their involvement in the case.

The accusation went further as the group accused top government officials of being promised oil and money for the repatriation deal.
