The university's vice-chancellor, Prof Daniel Mugendi, on the other hand, noted that the commitment from the university community and all stakeholders was able to see them achieve the feat.

For years, UoN has ranked as the best university across the country and still remains the best when it comes to academic ranking.

In January 2021, UoN was ranked the top institution in East Africa and 13 in Africa by a new Webometrics Ranking.

Eight Kenyan universities made it to the top 200 list in the ranking of universities in Africa. Kenyatta University is third in Kenya and 40 in Africa.

Moi University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Agriculture (JKUAT) were at positions four and respectively. In the continent, they were ranked number 50 and 51 respectively.

The University of Embu (UoEm) was established as a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. It is the successor of the former Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College which started in 1947 as an agricultural training school and was later renamed Embu Institute of Agriculture in 1968.

In 1990, it was upgraded to be Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College whose mandate was to develop and implement short management and technical courses, and offer research and consultancy services to enhance performance in the agricultural sector.
