WRC Winner Sebastian Ogier Plans To Donate Ksh2.5 Million To Kenya
World Rally Championship Safari Rally winner, Sebastian Ogier on Tuesday, July 14, announced he will donate Ksh2.5 million to two Kenyan organizations.
Ogier stated in a post on his Facebook account he will be donating Ksh1.25 million to the Nakuru Children's Project in support of their education.
In his post, the rally driver also confirmed that the remaining half will be given towards the conservation of wildlife at the Olpejeta Conservancy in Laikipia County.
"Few weeks ago we were celebrating our 4th win of the season at Safari Rally Kenya with incredible support from the locals in the most amazing nature. This wonderful country got a place in my heart - and I want to give something back," Ogier remarked.
"Education is the key to a better future so I want to support Nakuru Children's Project with €10.000, and we should do everything in our power to protect this wildlife so I will also make a donation of €10.000 to Ol Pejeta Conservancy," he announced.
The Nakuru Children's Project is a non-profit making organisation that aims at improving education for children in the county headed by Governor Lee Kinyanui.
"This is a great surprise for us at the Nakuru Children's Project. We thank Sebastien Ogier for such an incredibly generous donation. We’ve got some big dreams in the pipeline and this is going to help make them a reality for kids in Nakuru," the co-founder of the Nakuru Children's Project Zoe Kelland wrote on her Twitter.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy strives to conserve wildlife, provide a sanctuary for great apes and to generate income through wildlife tourism and complementary enterprises for re-investment in conservation and community development.
President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded the Frenchman and his navigator, Julien Ingrassia, after they clinched a win in the safari rally which is also dubbed as the toughest event in the WRC.
The Head of State was joined by motorsport enthusiasts at the Hells Gate WRC Circuit in Naivasha to witness the Power Stage Finish of the 2021 Safari Rally.
He stated the government had secured the hosting rights of the event from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the WRC after 19 years of intense lobbying and preparations.
"It gives me great pleasure, therefore, to announce, that we have agreed, with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the World Rally Championship (WRC), to continue hosting the Safari Rally in Kenya, every year until 2026," the president announced.
