Watch Ruto's Reaction After UDA Wins Kiambaa By-Election

  • Deputy President William Ruto on Friday, July 16, reacted joyfully following the win by UDA candidate Njuguna Wanjiku in the just concluded Kiambaa by-elections.

With his right hand raised high and a remote control on his left hand, the DP thanked God as seen in a 20 seconds video shared by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.

At this time, the DP was watching Njuguna who was praying live on TV.

"It has been such a journey for us. We commit ourselves to God through prayer. Thank you Hustlers from Kiambaa for believing in us," Sudi wrote.

In the tightly contested race, Njuguna clinched 21,773 votes defeating Jubilee's Kariri Njama who garnered 21,263 votes.

As soon as the winner was announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Njuguna broke into tears and vowed that he would work closely with the residents of Kiambaa.

"It has been a journey and I want to thank the Kiambaa people for entrusting me with their votes and for giving me an opportunity to serve them for the next one year.

"It has been a tough journey. There was a lot of voter bribery and intimidation but finally, God has granted us the win and we are very happy," he stated.

The Kiambaa by-elections pit a supremacy battle between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

Ruto has expressed interest in vying for the top seat come 2022 while the president will be retiring and has not shown any interest in endorsing his DP.

The Jubilee party was hoping to make a comeback by winning the Kiambaa seat, having lost the March by-elections in various parts of the Country.
