The showdown between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto is expected on Thursday, July 15, as Kiambaa residents go to the ballot to elect their next Member of Parliament (MP).

Jubilee party has presented Kariri Njama as their candidate while UDA, a party associated with the DP, have presented John Njuguna.

Rigorous campaigns have been witnessed by the two parties following the death of  Paul Koinange in March.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission indicated that there are more than 96,000 registered voters in the Constituency.

10:35: IEBC announced that UDA's Njuguna Wanjiku had emerged the winner in the Kiambaa by-elections.

Friday 7:00: Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama and his supporters stormed into the tallying centre and caused a fracas. Njama alleged that there were election malpractices. 

13:30: IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati maintained that chiefs are not permitted to be present at polling stations. UDA officials had lamented that chiefs were being used to influence the voting process.

13:30: IEBC responded to Kuria saying that the vehicle was being used by Commission staff who are providing technical support to the polling process.

12:45: Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria decried that he had tried to get a hold of IEBC chairperson to know avail. He alleged that some IEBC clerks were conducting voting at valentine growers  plantation. He also posted a vehicle he believed that they were using. 

11:09: Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama casts his vote at Gachie Primary School accompanied by Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Muranga MP Sabina Chege.                                                                                                                           "We have faith and confidence with IEBC...and even the conduct themselves. We have heard about people who have the intent of causing chaos but the security agents are proactive," Njama told the press.

10:00: UDA Candidate John Njuguna Wanjiku casts his vote at Thindigwa Primary School.

9:50: Kimunya stated that he had been officially cleared as a polling agent.

He added; "To the people of Kiambaa: This is their day to make their decision. They should make that decision without intimidation from anyone and in a peaceful way."

9:25: Police officers arrive at scene after alleged UDA supporters boo Kimunya.

8:57: National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya is confronted by residents at Kimuga polling station. The residents alleged that Kimunya was neither a voter nor an agent.

7:50: Heavy security presence as residents turn out to vote.

6:00: Polling stations open in Kiambaa Constituency.
