State House Robbery

State House is considered to be one of the most protected buildings in the country. However, in April 2013, a daring robbery took place in the President's residence in Mombasa -a robbery that showed the depths that robbers would go to.

According to official records, the State House caretaker and a General Service Unit (GSU) constable are reported to have sneaked into the President's office as well as the First Lady's and made away with five pieces of decorative ivory.

Reports indicate that the ivory was smuggled out of the State House under the guise of waste. However, an alert was issued on the missing ivory and police pounced on the suspects before the ivory could be sold off.
