Teachers at a primary school in Budalangi, Busia County were angered by their school head who punished them for reporting late on Monday, July 26.

The headteacher of Sichekhe Primary School, ordered the security guard to lock the teachers outside the gate on the school reopening date.

He accused the tutors of being indisciplined for reporting to school late and failing to lead by example. The gate was reportedly closed at 8 am.

They lamented that the watchman declined to let them in, ordering them to go back home and report back on the following day, Tuesday, July 27, to face disciplinary actions.

Those who spoke with the media alleged that the headteacher was constantly frustrating the teachers at the school and was tainting their rapport by subjecting them to punishments.

"How will the community and students look at teachers, where is the respect?" one teacher lamented.

He argued that the students would tend to be unruly and disrespect their teachers. The teacher urged the school head to instigate such measures in privacy during staffroom meetings rather than out in public.

"We need a headteacher who works with objectives. Not someone who just walks around aimlessly.

"We are ready to be transferred and leave him to manage the school on his own," another teacher complained.

The school head did not address the allegations. Students reported to the school for the 2021 academic calendar on Monday, July 26. The first term will end on October 1.

Students will then break for one week and report for the second term from October 11 to December 23. The third term will begin on January 3, 2022, to March 4, 2022.
