Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro was on Tuesday, August 3 shouted down by fellow legislators in the National Assembly as he tried to address the dramatic blocking of Deputy President William Ruto from leaving the country.
In a clip seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the lawmaker rose to lament over the decision by the government to block Ruto and his entourage from heading to Kampala but his colleagues, majority of whom are allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, could not let him.
Nyoro argued that it was unfair to block the Deputy President despite him travelling for private business.
"In this house we have the privilege of raising such issues Mr Speaker, which are of national importance because, Mr Speaker, I don't think as a country, that we should just watch as overzealous government officials humiliate a person in the stature of the Deputy President of this nation (sic)," argued Nyoro.
"Of more importance is that I was having a private travel to Kampala, Uganda but I was told ostensibly that I needed clearance from some quota, Mr Speaker, which is against the law (sic)."
The acting Speaker, however, shouted him down mid-speech reminding him that he was out of order for raising an issue that had already been settled.
"You know honourable Ndindi Nyoro, it is just that you came at the latter part of this sitting this afternoon. If you were here earlier, you would have known that this issue was raised and the Speaker gave direction (sic)," stated the acting Speaker.
"So, let us not go that path. Let us remain with the direction given earlier by the speaker."
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo also attacked Nyoro for attending sessions in Parliament while wearing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party colours which is against the Parliamentary laws.
Ruto was on Monday, August 2, blocked from leaving the country and flying to Uganda via the Wilson Airport.
The DP's spokesperson, David Mugonyi, noted that Ruto was stopped by the security team at Wilson Airport and asked for clearance from Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua.
Digital Strategist Denis Itumbi, an associate of the DP, told Kenyans.co.ke that the requirement was suspect as the Deputy President had never been required to seek clearance since taking oath of office in 2013.
