The Ministry of Education under Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has extended the Form One reporting period by a week.
Parents will have up to Friday, August 13, to enroll their children to their respective schools.
The Ministry's Director for Secondary Schools, Paul Kibet, issued the directive on Saturday, August 7.
Magoha, while launching the Form One selection exercise at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in June 2021, set the reporting date between August 2 and August 6.
The CS insisted that all students who sat the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) would transition to secondary school.
"I wish to assure the country that the Ministry has conducted an audit of all new and existing vacancies in all our private and public schools to enable us to admit all learners under the free day secondary school programme," stated Magoha.
"We are determined to work with the relevant agencies to ensure no candidate misses a place in secondary school.”
1,179,192 pupils sat for the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam, with nearly 889,011 scoring below 300 marks out of the possible 500.
Magoha announced that 585,942 girls compared to 585,323 boys would join Form One this year.
53,000 candidates applied for the Elimu Scholarship Programme under the Ministry of Education.
"We have strictly applied the principles of equity, fairness, merit, transparency, inclusiveness and affirmative action in the Form One selection and that is why the placement has taken longer,” Magoha explained.
