A woman wrestled an armed robber who broke into her family home while she and her husband were preparing to go to bed.

Everlyne Barasa state that the armed robber broke into her home at Kaptegaa village in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County at 9:00 PM and pointed the gun on her head threatening to kill her if she did not give him Ksh200,000.

According to the Barasa, the thug threatened to wipe out her family if she did not produce the money. The 50-year-old woman explained that the suspect was aware that the family had recently sold a parcel of land.

The Standard indicated that Barasa's husband Philip Nakhisa pretended to be asleep on the sofa but she could see that he was aware of what was happening.

"I saw my husband slowly rise up. I knew if I grabbed the thug by the knees and he falls down, my husband would definitely jump in to help me," Barasa was quoted by the publication.

She immediately pounced on the armed robber and wrestled him to the floor and her husband jumped in and helped her to disarm the man.

The couple took the AK-47 from the man's hands and restrained him while shouting and calling for help. When neighbours came they descended on the thug but he was saved by the area's village elder, Eunice Simiyu.

Police were alerted to the incident and they took the suspect in custody. He confessed to the crime and alleged that he hired the weapon from a Kenya Police Reservist.

Area OCPD Salesioh Muriithi confirmed the incident stating that police had launched investigations into the attack.

"Among other things, we are seeking to find out if the gun has been used in previous crimes in this area, including a recent attack on an M-Pesa shop where the owner lost money," the police chief stated.

This comes barely a day after the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, launched investigations against senior police officers accused of issuing illegal directives to their juniors.

Haji, on Monday, August 9, stated that he was reviewing old cases - where junior officers, arraigned and jailed - with the intention of ascertaining whether they were acting under orders or duress.
