Deputy President William Ruto has responded to President Uhuru Kenyatta's push to unite One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals under ODM leader Raila Odinga ahead of the 2022 General Election.

The DP reacted on Sunday, August 15, while attending a Holy Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kawangware, Nairobi County.

He hit out at the President's push to unite OKA  principals together with Raila to form a more formidable team ahead of the 2022 general elections.

"You see how they have ganged up? They can gang up all they want but we will not be intimidated, we have God," Ruto stated.

The DP's sentiments referenced the recent meeting in Mombasa by President Kenyatta, where he met Raila and OKA principals on Tuesday, August 10.

The President had invited the OKA principals who included Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi of KANU, Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, and Moses Wetangula of Ford-Kenya. Kakamega Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya had also tagged along Raila at the meeting.

Ruto expressed confidence in his bid for the top office and vowed not to be moved by the unity attempts made by his rivals.

He went on to warn the electorate to be vigilant of his political opponents, which he accused of sowing political division and accused them of only focusing on the division of power.

"We must have discussions that involve uniting Kenyans rather than focusing on the sharing of power by these political leaders," noted Ruto.

He went on to call out Raila and OKA principals for accusing him of being stubborn, claiming he was only defending the economically incapacitated in the society.

"Those who have ganged up on me accuse me of being stubborn and defending the poor in society. This time, we will include the discourse of the oppressed and the poor in society," stated Ruto.

The DP also donated Ksh1 million to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, in contribution to the church's expansion ambitions to the upproar of the church gathering.
