Julius Muoki, a biker who was to join the four young men who were lynched by a mob in Kitengela, has spoken of how he narrowly escaped the tragedy.
The four included two brothers Fred Mureithi, 30 and Victor Mwangi, 25, and their friends Mike George, 29, and Nicholas Musa, 28 were lynched to death by a mob on Sunday, August 8, after being mistaken for livestock thieves.
The biker revealed that he escaped death by a whisker after he rushed back home to fetch his backpack; the momentary delay that saved him from the wrath of the mob that killed his friends.
He noted that upon reaching home, he tried to call his friends but all their phones went unanswered. Minutes later, their phones went off.
"I just can’t believe it. If it was not that I went back for my backpack at home, I could also have been killed together with my friends," Mwoki stated.
"After I got my bag, I tried calling their mobile phones but they went unanswered. I was shocked to later learn that they had all been killed."
He expressed grief over the demise of his friends and called for action to be taken against the perpetrators.
His sentiments were echoed by the Kenya Bikers Association chairman, Sammy Kiumbe who demanded the police to bring the suspects to book.
Recently, Kiumbe alongside other bikers, converged at the Kitengela Police Station in a peaceful protest to demand swift justice for the four friends.
The demise of the four friends has caused an uproar among the majority of Kenyans who called for action to be taken against the mob.
The police had initially pointed out that the community in Kitengela had kept quiet about the suspects involved in the incident.
The officers, however, added that they would continue to record statements from persons of interest in order to piece together what happened to the four friends.
