  • Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai on Tuesday, August 17, named Bruno Isohi Shioso as the new Spokesperson for the National Police Service.

The appointment comes after the previous spokesperson, Charles Owino, was transferred to Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons in May.

Isohi will take over the role immediately, after jetting in from New York in the United States, where he was on a secondment mission for the United Nations.

At the UN, Isohi held the position of team leader of the Serious and Organized Crime Team (SOC Team) which aims to address transnational threats, including serious and organized crime, corruption, and violent extremism.

The new police spokesperson is a seasoned detective who previously worked as the Deputy Head of the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit.

Isohi also worked as the personal assistant to then Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro.

He becomes the third police spokesperson under the new dispensation introduced in 2012 in line with the Constitution promulgated in 2010.

The new law saw Kenya Police and Administration Police Service merged under the command of the Inspector General of Police.

In 2015, Isohi was one of the five officers appointed to investigate the Garissa University College terror attack and provide a detailed report on the findings.

His appointment comes at a time when the NPS was facing tremendous pressure for its conduct.

The image of the NPS has also been questioned, which is one of the challenges Isohi is expected to solve.

NPS has recently been under scrutiny, following the killing of the two Kianjokoma brothers in Embu.

Isohi takes over the spokesmanship of the service, whose past spokespersons include, Jasper Ombati, Erick Kiraithe, Gatiri Mboroki, and Owino who recently announced his intentions to vie the Siaya gubernatorial seat
