A 45-year-old man from Elgeyo Marakwet County has gone back to school after 26 years.

Martin Kimosop sat for Kenya Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 1995 at St Daniel Kaptabuk Secondary School and scored a C-.

Unfortunately, Kimosop was not able to join college due to financial difficulties and began a family. Kimasop got married in 2000 and is blessed with three children, who have now cleared their studies.

“It is now my turn to pursue my education and post better results,” Kimosop told journalists, adding that he feels it is his turn to go back to school, targeting a B+.

As schools opened last month, Kimasop went and enrolled at Kimuron Secondary School in Elgeyo Marakwet County, where he joined Form Two.

Kimasop told pressmen that when he realized he could not proceed with his studies, he set up a library at home and has been studying all along. His favourite subjects are English and Mathematics.

“I joined form two because I need enough time to prepare for my final exams,” Kimosop explained.

According to teachers at the school, Kimosop is older than half the tutors at the institution, but remains one of the most obedient and disciplined students

Kimosop says he is happy to be back in school and will not look back despite ridicule from relatives, friends and associates. He wants to become a broadcast journalist, once he completes his studies.

Besides studies, the man says that being a father to many students in his school also makes him happy. He narrated how the students address him as their father.

"I am happy because the students see me as their father and I reciprocate by offering them advice as my children,” he says.

Kimosop says he pays his fees through farming and his wife is also very supportive. In fact, she accepted to stay at home while he went ahead to pursue his studies.

However, it hasn't been easy for him. Neighbours keep ridiculing him, with some telling him he is wasting money.
