Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has blasted Members of Parliament for demanding the registration of schools that are not fit to host learners.
Speaking in Mombasa the CS noted that MPs some MPs had been using NG-CDF money to build schools and they want the Ministry to register them even when they are not completed.
The CS directed the Education Ministry's quality assurance officers to investigate schools before registering them.
Prof Magoha also explained that the government will reconsider cases where a school needs urgent registration but they will receive temporary registration orders.
He also stated that some schools will be registered temporarily adding that the ministry would not be used or influenced by politics.
"We won’t allow schools to be registered for political reasons. Any school that has the minimum requirement should be registered temporarily.
"We shall register them but we will investigate. We won’t sanitise schools built by politicians,” the CS explained.
Magoha gave an example of Nyanza where he stated he inspected schools following pressure from politicians to register them but then realised they did not meet the requirements.
"I have realised that people who do funny things in registering schools have delayed these processes. Then there are small matters of kickbacks that we will unearth. But we will ensure the new schools are registered," the CS explained.
"I want to assure my officers that I will take full responsibility. Let nobody push you to register a school that still requires infrastructure," he continued.
Magoha was speaking amid an ongoing drive with Interior CS Fred Matiang'i to ensure thousands of missing Form One students are enrolled in school.
The exercise to search for about 100,000 missing students was scheduled to begin on the morning of Monday, August 23 and would involve all stakeholders at the sub-county level.
