Principal Secretary in the State Department for University Education and Research Simon Nabukwesi rescued a form one student who was stranded in Nakuru County on Wednesday, August 25.

Nabukwesi helped Harriet Hapless, a Form One student at Tumaini secondary school in Nakuru who was unable to attend school due to her parent's inability to raise lunch money.

The PS chipped from his pocket and donated Ksh6,000 for the stranded student. He then directed the area chief to ensure the girl was taken back to school.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kennedy Buhere, Heads of Communications in the Ministry of Education, stated Nabukwesi donated the money out of his kindness.

He added that lack of food is one of the leading causes of students missing school.

"The Ksh6,000 he gave was his personal money, he gave it out of kindness. It may look like small money but that girl will forever remember PS Nabukwesi. Actually, if you look at the students missing school because of lack of food, then you will realize how much that money means to that family," Buhere stated.

Nabukwesi was on a Form One learners mop up exercise in Nakuru County where he visited several schools in the area to establish how many learners transited and those who were yet to report to form one.

During his visit, the PS found Assistant County Commissioner Moseti Moffat assisting needy children in getting uniforms to enable them to go to school.

The Assistant County Commissioner assured PS Nabukwesi that sufficient data had been gathered to ascertain the number who had not reported and that arrangements had been put in place to ensure they all report to form one.

The PS later visited Heshima Primary School that is located within an informal settlement where it was reported that a number of needy cases had failed to join form one.

While addressing parents, the PS reiterated the need to ensure that their children attend school adding that no parent should not deny their children the right to education
