The widow of the late Ibrahim Akasha Abdalla has sued the government following the disappearance of her twin granddaughters.

The two teenagers went missing over three weeks ago.

Hayat Akasha now accuses the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of doing very little in helping find the two girls.

In a petition filed at the High Court in Nairobi, Hayat, says the teens were last seen on the morning of Monday, August 2, within their Nairobi neighbourhood.

She now wants the court to compel the police to help her trace their whereabouts, as well as declare her right to know where they are was violated by the state.

Through her lawyer, John Khaminwa, Hayat says she suspect her neighbour masterminded the disappearances.

“The girls were so close with their neighbour and there is likelihood he whisked them away. I deeply believe they had been misled by the neighbour so that they could elope,” she stated in the court papers.

She says that despite reporting the matter at Dandora Police Station, no investigations have been carried out nor suspects questioned.

She further states that she was on August 11 notified by the DCI officers based at the station that the suspects would be questioned, but nothing has happened since then.

“I have experienced great anxiety and being in sleepless nights ever since my grandchildren went missing. I believe that unless this court asserts pressure on the Inspector General of Police to produce the girls, they may be harmed to my detriment and the extended family,” she sated.

Her two sons, Ibrahim and Baktash Akasha, are serving jail terms in the US over drug trafficking related charges and she has been the guardian to the two teenagers since their childhood.
