The University of Nairobi has published the names of all 6,407 students admitted at the institution, including the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) top candidate, Robinson Simiyu Wanjala.
In a statement shared by the institution on Wednesday, September 1, Wanjala was admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
The candidate is among 122 individuals who were admitted to pursue the course including 2020 KCSE second best candidate, Wasonga Allan Udoma.
Wanjala, who went to Murang'a High School for his secondary school education, was the best candidate nationally scoring an A of 87.334 points, followed by Wasonga and Sharon Chepng'eno who came in second with 87.173 points.
In an interview shortly after the results were released, Wanjala disclosed that he had expected to perform well but did not expect to be the top candidate countrywide.
He further noted that he looked forward to studying Medicine at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and aspired to become a surgeon before later specialising in cancer treatment and management.
"By the time I was in Form 4, I targeted to be the best but I was not expecting to be number one. I would like to take a course in medicine at UoN. I had applied for medicine and Engineering," he stated.
In general, KUCCPS placed approximately 13 of the top students who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in 2020 at the University of Nairobi (UoN) to pursue the Bachelor of Science degree in Medicine.
Sharon Chepngeno Terer, the top girl nationally, will pursue a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree programme. Sharon had a mean score of 87.173 from the Kenya High School.
360 of the 869 top students who scored grade A, will be admitted at UoN in September 2021 to pursue various degree programmes.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placed 6,407 students to study at University of Nairobi, pursuing 60 different courses.
201 students were admitted to pursue Bachelor of Laws, while 182 joined for a course in Bachelor of Economics and Statistics.
Other categories included Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering which has 66, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (61), Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (72) and Bachelor of Arts (Journalism and Media Studies) with 79 students.

The new students will report to the university physically on Monday, September 20, 2021. The students will undergo a week-long orientation programme.
