A 34-year-old man in Siaya County was arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives on suspicion of beating to death his wife.
The suspect is accused of brutalising his wife and inflicting bodily harm that led to her ultimate demise.
According to the DCI, the suspect went home on Saturday, September 11, only to find his wife missing. His search for her led him to a nearby liquor den, when he found her overtly drunk.
"Infuriated by the sight, the suspect descended on her with kicks and blows, further immobilizing his 42-year-old wife, who could barely stand on her feet," the DCI stated.
The detectives claim that the suspect put his wife on a wheelbarrow and pushed her home, where she is reported to have developed complications and passed away the same night.
Police officers were alerted by the nearby residents of the unfortunate events and proceeded to arrest the suspect. He is currently in custody at Sihay police station, awaiting arraignment for murder charges.
Further, Kenyans online urged police officers to conduct conclusive investigations to ensure justice is served.
Domestic violence cases have been on the rise in the recent past.
According to a government report dubbed Demographic and Health Survey 2020, 45 percent of women and girls aged 15 to 49 years have experienced physical violence while 14 percent have experienced sexual violence.
The report further pointed out that the majority of the cases are not reported to authorities and few women get justice or receive medical care.
