Driver Crashes Mercedes Truck After Cops Boarded by Force

A motorist crashed his car and injured three police officers who jumped into the vehicle to escort him to a police station after he was apprehended on the highway. 

The Mercedes Benz Actros truck driver was arrested by the traffic officers in Nyando, Kisumu County on Thursday morning a few minutes past midnight.

Three traffic officers who were at the roadblock were asked to escort the 36-year-old to Awasi Police Station where he was to be grilled on possession of illegal liquor

"He was travelling from Kisumu to Kericho and it happened that the said driver had been intercepted and arrested by the officers from Awasi Police Station. 

"(He was to be questioned on) siphoning of the said liquor," the police report filed at the police station read. 

On reaching the Pala area opposite the station, the driver was reported to have lost control of the said motor vehicle and crashed into a nearby trench

"He swerved to the left and landed in the nearby ditch.

"The said officers sustained injuries to the head and limbs and also incurred bruises on other body parts," an excerpt of the report added. 

All the four occupants were rushed to Awasi Catholic Mission Private Hospital and later referred to Ahero Subcounty Hospital where the doctor reportedly noted that they were in a stable condition. 

Detectives visited and processed the crime scene as investigations into the incident commenced. 

"Necessary action was taken. The suspect is being guarded awaiting recovery before being taken to the station," the police report stated.
