A Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student linked to a UK football club can now breath easy after his family was rescued after their house burnt down.

The student, Joseph Simiyu Muse Wabuge, popularly known as Ahmed, was connected to England's Ipswich Town Football Club after tweeting them asking to be signed by the Club.

At the end of August, an inferno razed down his family home in Kapkoi, Kitale in Kenya destroying most of their possessions.

A family friend, Jane Nuttney, who knew Ahmed after his famous 'signing' by the club, started a fundraiser seeking to raise 1,000 British Pounds (Ksh150,000) to help the family rebuild.

So far, the initiative has raise 700 Sterling Pounds (Ksh 105,000).

Speaking to East Anglian Daily Times, an England publication, Nuttney noted that she decided to help the family after knowing Ahmed as a good person.

"I have kept in touch with Ahmed since he appeared on the Ipswich Town Football Club Twitter timeline in 2019 and we have become friends."

"He is an exceptionally sweet, polite, funny and extremely bright boy, speaking five different languages and studying Bio-Statistics at JKUAT in Nairobi. He deserves to go far in life," she stated.

She further noted that the money would help the family begin replacing some of their destroyed property.

"I would really love to help in any way I can by raising money to help the family get new or replacement materials to repair their home and start to piece their lives back together," she added.

In 2019, Ahmed tagged the club stating: "Hello, I'm a Kenyan, 20 years old and I play LW/RW/CAM, please sign me and I promise to give my best and add more depth to the squad."

Fans of the club then asked it to sign him which they announced in a dramatic poster. A supporter got him the number 47 which he printed on his shirt.
