"I don't accept threats. Threats, no! Not to me. If that is how you are planning that this one is the one who will issue threats, let us not go that direction," the VC stated.

He further called for the UNSA members to engage with the administration to find amicable solution to the issues raided.

"We must engage and continue to engage until together we get the solution," Kiama added.

In a letter signed by UNSA Secretary General, Nathan Kiplangat, the student body issued a strike notice stating that there would be mass demonstrations in all UoN campuses across the country on Monday, September 20.

According to the memo, the decision to strike was reached upon after deliberations with the institutions administration had collapsed.

The students are  protesting the increment in tuition and accommodation fees by the institution.

UoN increased the accommodation fee from Ksh30 and Ksh28 to Ksh175 and Ksh144 per day for single an shared rooms respectively.

In July, the university had announced an increase in school fees for self-sponsored students. Even though Kiama stated that the increment was only meant for the incoming students, it sparked rage as students took to the streets in protest of the same.

On Sunday, September 19, an inferno was reported in the institution's Kitchen 1. At the time of going to press, Kenyans.co.ke could not independently verify whether this was part of the unrest by the students.
