A single father of three lost his children in a house fire on Tuesday evening, September 28, in Elburgon area of Nakuru County.

The children, two girls and a boy aged 6, 5 and 4 years, had been left in the house alone at the time of the tragic incident.

Their father had left the house to buy milk from a nearby shop and had left a charcoal jiko burning in one of the rooms.

Speaking to the media, the distraught father stated that he had received a call from a neighbour informing him that his house was on fire.

"I hurriedly came back home and found neighbours fighting the fire," he stated.

He, and the children, had been living in the house alone since he separated with his wife in 2019.

Locals told the media that the children would be left alone at night as their father worked in one of the fuel stations as a night guard.

Molo Sub County police boss, Mwenda Muthamia, confirmed the incident saying that the fire started at around 6:30pm. He added that investigations had began to establish what caused the fire.

The bodies of the victims were moved to Elburgon Sub County Hospital mortuary.

The incident took place days after four family members including a mother and three children burnt to death after their house was razed by a fire at Taru in Kinango sub county.

Police officers at the scene could not establish what had caused the fire. However, locals in the area believed that a candle might have caused the incident.
