Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua, has gone on the offensive attacking his Gatundu South counterpart, Moses Kuria, over his demands to Deputy President, William Ruto, who is seeking the country's presidency in the August 9, 2022 polls.

Speaking during an interview with KTN News Wednesday, September 29, Gachagua openly differed with demands made by Kuria to the Deputy President if the Mt Kenya region is to back his presidential bid.

According to Kuria, for the people of Mount Kenya region to back Ruto, he must guarantee them nothing short of the deputy presidency and at least 40 per cent of all government positions.

However, Gachagua, dismissed the demands stating that those were his own personal demands and that he did not speak on behalf of the vote-rich region.

"Moses Kuria is a friend of the Deputy President. If he has conditions like those ones, then he is able to walk to his office and discuss with him."

"But on our side, we have no such conditions. Our issues with the DP is economy, economy, economy and nothing else," stated the Mathira MP.

Gachagua further stated that Mount Kenya needed a person who would revive the economy of the region.

He added that they would only give their vote to an individual who would present them with the best plan to ensure that money trickles down to the common man.

According to the Mathira legislator, the DP, to a large extent, managed to convince the people of Mount Kenya that he has an economic model to revive their economy.

Gachagua stated that under President Uhuru's  government, the  people of Mount Kenya have suffered the most, stating that they have lost businesses and property under the current regime.

"Evictions and demolitions is something that people from the mountain hate and we have a big problem with the Uhuru government because of this."

He also compared and contrasted the economy under President Uhuru and his predecessor Mwai Kibaki, stating that the economy was better under the former President.
