The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General, Francis Atwoli, on Saturday, October 2, said he will unveil the list of leaders who will take over Western Kenya Gubernatorial and Parliamentary positions in the August 9, 2022 election.

Speaking in Bungoma, the outspoken trade unionist revealed that his team was on the ground collecting data and carrying out thorough research on the suitability of candidates and that the outcome would be made public at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega before the end of the year.

"Don't play, I will give you a list of the next leaders in the Western region. Be it Members of Parliament or Governors. I will read out the names at Bukhungu Stadium on December 31, 2021," Atwoli stated.

The COTU boss warned the residents of Western Kenya that some leaders would give them a raw deal if elected, hence the need to have the list of preferential leaders before the end of the year.

Atwoli was flanked by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya among other leaders who toured various parts of the Western region in a bid to woo the voters.

In his address, the ODM party leader assured the region that he had not neglected the region after the 2018 handshake. He added that he would revive the stalled factories and initiate major infrastructure development projects.

This is after a section of leaders claimed that Raila had lost a chunk of the Western Kenya votes after the friction between the One Kenya Alliance leaders comprising of  Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, Gideon Moi of KANU, and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya.

However, Raila dispelled the rumours and noted that the region, primarily the youth, were at the center of his 2022 bid.

The political scene has heated up as the country draws near to the 2022 General Election with political leaders touring to popularise their bid.

From the bottom-up economic model by Deputy President William Ruto to Raila's 'Azimio la Umoja', politicians continue to sell their agenda to Kenyans.
