Ex-Citizen TV Journalist Joins BBC

Former Citizen TV reporter Dorcas Wangira has joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

In a letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke, BBC Africa Health Editor, Anne Mawathe, welcomed the journalist to the team.

"I am inviting you to join me in congratulating Dorcas Wangira to the health team."

"She will now be part of the team telling the health story in the continent. Were it not for the pandemic, there would be cake. But well, here we are. Welcome, Dorcas Wangira. The health team is happy to have you with us," read part of the letter.

Wangira studied at Mary Hill Girls High School, Kiambu County from 2004 to 2007. She then enrolled at Moi university and graduated with a degree in Communication and Public Relations in 2013.

A year later, the vibrant journalist made her breakthrough in the media industry by joining Standard Media Group PLC as an intern reporter. After working for 11 months, she got absorbed and worked as a news correspondent for two years and seven months.

She later became a freelance journalist for one year, from June 2017 to August 2018.

Wangira then joined Royal Media Services as a features reporter where she focused on "Your Story"- a weekly segment that aired every Sunday on Prime Time News.

Among her accolades include the 2020 MERCK More Than A Mother Award, East Africa Category for Multi-Media Reporting, 2019, ICT TV Reporting Award, Annual Journalism Excellence Award, 2019 Michael Elliott Award.

Others include the 2018 Upstream Oil and Gas Journalist of the Year Award and the Zimeo 2017 Award for Climate Change and Conservation reporting.
