Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed Central Kenya tycoons under the Mount Kenya Foundation, as the 2022 presidential race gains momentum.

Speaking on Saturday, October 9, Ruto bashed the tycoons, saying he does not need their approval to become the president of Kenya.

The DP called the meetings that the tycoons have been holding with opposition leaders as “interviews to appoint the president.”

While addressing a rally in Laikipia, Ruto rubbished the talks they are holding in hotels, saying they do not represent the Mount Kenya people.

“People of Nyahururu, I want to ask you one thing. These people who hold meetings in hotels to endorse leaders, did you send them?” the lawmaker posed.

Ruto went on to state that as long as the Mount Kenya Foundation continues holding these meetings, it is not in their place to decide who becomes the leader.

“Are they the ones to make the decisions or are you the ones who should? Will the president be chosen in big hotels or on the ground?”

“If they want to protect their businesses, they should know that even the common citizen wants to secure what they have,” Ruto remarked.

Ruto further told them that their efforts will not bear any fruits as long they continue meeting without explaining  how they will address the country's economic challenges.

During the rally that was attended by a number of his allies, Ruto donated Ksh2 million.

He said that the money he has been dishing out is his own, and he will begin using the government's money when he gets in power.

“I want everyone to understand one thing. The money we have given today is from our own pockets. We will start using the government's money next year,” Ruto noted

His sentiments come days after the Mount Kenya Foundation held meetings with a number of politicians, including the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals.
