Detectives, while carrying out a sting operation, flushed out a gang believed to be running a well-oiled motorcycle syndicate in the country.
The police raided the gang's base in Moyale, Marsabit County on Sunday, October 10, and nabbed a 24-year-old youth suspected to be the ring leader.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 11, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that they recovered 350 logbooks among other assorted items.
DCI responded to multiple complaints filed in various police stations regarding motorbike theft and cloning.
"Over 350 motorcycle logbooks, sales agreements motorcycle number plates and assorted delivery notes were recovered at a house in Moyale town, belonging to the mastermind," read the statement.
DCI also stated that they apprehended another man believed to be an abettor of the main suspect.
"His accomplice also aged 24 was arrested last night as they planned to escape from the police," read the statement in part.
The police further revealed that they had carried out similar operations in Eastleigh after new motorcycles were stolen from a warehouse in the Industrial Area, Nairobi. Starehe-based detectives led the operation.
"Detectives have established that motorbikes stolen from various parts of the country find their way to the upper eastern and northeastern counties where they’re sold to bandits.
"Others find their way into countries neighbouring those counties," the DCI disclosed.
The duo was held at Moyale Police Station for further questioning. They will be arraigned before a court of law to answer relevant charges.
