Siaya Senator, James Orengo, and Rarieda MP, Otiende Amollo, have expressed their disappointment in outgoing Governor Cornel Rasanga for going after the Alego Uyoga Parliamentary seat.

The two leaders who were speaking in Siaya on Saturday, October 16, stated that they will back the current Member of Parliament, Samuel Atandi, in next years elections.

Orengo stated that Atandi was fit for the job and he had proved that he is capable of representing the people of Alego Usonga.

He added that the MP was keen on solving issues his constituents are facing, as well as pushing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) agenda in Parliament.

The Siaya senator told the congregation that Atandi had demonstrated good leadership qualities, that enabled him to be appointed as a member of the Budget Committee.

On his part, MP Otiende Amollo also dismissed Rasanga's plans to contest for the Parliamentary position, arguing that it is unfair to target the lower seat after being the boss at the county level.

At the same time, the leaders urged Siaya residents to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration to strengthen ODM leader Raila Odinga's chances of winning the Presidential election in 2022.

Orengo, Otiende Amollo and Ugunja MP, Opiyo Wandayi, expressed confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stating the agency as currently constituted would oversee fair polls in 2022.

This comes two months after ODM abandoned plans to push for the ouster of IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati and Commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye after members failed to reach a consensus on the matter.

ODM said it had dropped calls to make changes in the IEBC and called on the electoral agency to concentrate on delivering a free and fair general election next year.

“We have no personal problem with any person in the commission, all we are asking is that they conduct IEBC affairs per the law and with the openness and transparency that helps to cultivate public confidence in the commission,” ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna stated.
