An armed robber staging an attack in Muguga, Kiambu County, fell victim to his tools of trade.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Evans Atuya, together with two other accomplices raided the home of a resident, armed with crude weapons.
Together, the three stormed a residential house of an unsuspecting victim in Kabete Sub County. Using a boulder, they managed to knock the door of the victim's house off its hinges at about 2am.
The loud bang immediately woke up the occupant of the house, a man who was quick on his feet and not shy to protect himself. He got out of his bed and went to face the rather rude individuals who invited themselves to his house and, for that matter, without notice.
At the point, the victim did not know how many they were, but, evidently, he was outnumbered by armed men. Knowing that he stood no chances, fear coupled with adrenaline got the better out of him.
In a calculated risk, he went straight for Atuya, who had a knife held in his hand. He managed to snatch the knife and drive it into the assailant's neck.
This shook the two other accomplices. The three men attempted to run away, but Atuya barely made it a few metres away from the house.
He fell down on his feet, bleeding from the stab wound. The assailant later succumbed to his injury, dying by the same weapon he intended to use on his victim.
The neighbours, who had come to help out found that the situation had already been handled.
The police from Muguga Police Station arrived on the scene. Led by the Officer Commanding Station, they confirmed that it was a robbery incident.
"Only door hinges and a few nails were still hanging loosely on the door frame," DCI stated.
Although the victim managed to fight off the armed robbers, the DCI has warned victims of attacks to refrain from confronting armed robbers as it may lead to loss of lives.
