Wiper Deputy Party leader, Farah Maalim, has revealed the net worth of his party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka. The former National Assembly Deputy Speaker stated that the former Vice President is a poor man.

During an interview on a local TV station on Monday, October 18, Maalim stated that Kalonzo does not have more than Ksh 5 million in his accounts. He added that the Wiper leader could not measure up with other presidential hopefuls in terms of wealth.

Maalim explained that Kalonzo's net worth could be explained by the fact that the party leader has not been mentioned in corruption cases during his tenure in government.

"I'm sure when you go to his account you will not find anything more than Ksh 5 million to Ksh 4 million. The guy doesn't own anything," Maalim stated.

The former Lagdera Member of Parliament, who also served as National Assembly Deputy Speaker between 2007 and 2013, went ahead to claim that Kalonzo has not been given enough credit for having a reputable career in the management of public funds.

"You don't tell who is the person that is not corrupt. Maybe Kalonzo Musyoka. He is a poor guy, corrupt people are rich. They are filthy wealthy. The guy is poor himself. We also know his character as a person. You can say a lot of things about him," he added.

Maalim also rubbished claims that wealthy politicians were better suited for public office, urging Kenyans to vote in leaders with a good track record such as Kalonzo.

"I did not have a problem with President Uhuru Kenyatta becoming a President in 2013. I was still in ODM and I thought that he would do something on corruption because he has enough and doesn't need to steal, but the biggest stealing throughout the history of this country has happened during his time," the Wiper deputy party leader claimed.

He further shifted blame to Deputy President William Ruto.

"The system was not run by Uhuru in the first five years, maybe in certain other areas," Maalim claimed.

However, in the same interview, the Wiper deputy party leader stated that Ruto was better placed to win the elections as compared to Kalonzo.

"The Deputy President is a serious contender for that seat. Right now William Ruto is better placed than anybody else to become the next President of this country,” Maalim claimed.
