Kagwe Clarifies on Bars Closing Time

Bar owners can now breath a sigh of relief after the government further eased restrictions governing their operations.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday, October 21, announced that the closure of bars will revert to the earlier set time of 11pm.

"With the removal of curfew, we are reverting the closure of bars and restaurants at 11pm or the time allowed by the licencing authorities."

Kagwe emphasized that protocols on hand washing and social distancing would remain in force.

Kiambu Bar Owners Association chairman, Richard Kagiri, told Kenyans.co.ke that those whose licenses read bar and restaurant, will operate for 24 hours.

He added that night clubs are licensed to open until 2am.

Speaking on night travel, Kagwe stated that transport CS James Macharia would issue way forward in the shortest time possible.

The CS urged Kenyans to get vaccinated and not to relent on following the set Covid-19 protocols.

"Our appeal, therefore, is to all those who are eligible for vaccination to turn up in vaccination posts...The reduced positivity rate does not mean that the pandemic is over and that there will be no other wave. Nothing is further from the truth."

Kagwe made the clarification a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the end of dusk to dawn curfew during the Mashujaa Day Celebrations.

The move to have the curfew vacated followed a review of the containment measures by the National Response team and the National Security Council.

The president also reviewed upward the number of congregants allowed in worship centers.

From his directive, two-thirds will be allowed in worship centers from the initial number of one-third.
