Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP), Moses Kuria, has revealed a plan on how his party will set the pace in the nomination process ahead of next year's polls.

In a statement made by the legislator on Sunday, October 24, the Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader declared that the nomination process would be digital.

Kuria mentioned that in the entire process in CCK would be done electronically through Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) mobile technology.

"Chama Cha Kazi is the only party that committed that their nominations for Members of County Assembly (MCAs), MPs, Woman Representatives, Senators, Governors and President will be conducted electronically," he stated.

The MP further added that the results of the nomination would be streamed real time and online throughout the country, making CCK the first to do so. He added that electronic voting was the only way to ensure transparency.

"Free and fair nominations without digital voting is a con game," the statement read in part.

Kuria explained that the move was feasible, casting a doubt on claims that a section of the 21 million registered voters were too old or too illiterate to vote electronically. He argued that if 25 million Kenyans are able to use the various mobile banking platforms to transact, then they can vote electronically.

In accordance with directives from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), political parties submitted their nomination rules before the October 18 timeline.

On October 13, CCK party leader declared that that his party would not nominate anyone above 45 years of age to contest for the  MCA position in the upcoming elections.

"Bad news if you are over 45 years and seeking to vie for MCA position. Chama Cha Kazi will not nominate anyone above 45 years to vie for MCA position. Let's walk the talk," the lawmaker revealed.

The new developments are in line with the legislator's declaration that he would not vie for any political position in the August 9, 2022 General Election. Kuria stated that he would focus on building his political party.

CCK won a protracted case battle against IEBC on October 21 after the High Court ordered the commission to include Kuria's candidate, Milton Mwenda, in the  Kiagu Ward by-election. The electoral body had initially disqualified Mwenda for flouting election rules.
