Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip can heave a sigh of relief following a gun drama that left a woman nursing gunshot wounds.

This is after a Nanyuki Court granted the senator a Ksh500,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Ksh1 million on October 25.

The court turned down a request by the police to further detain the senator for five days to complete investigations.

However, the lawmaker is not yet  off the hook as the police are still conducting investigations on the matter. Nanyuki resident magistrate Vincent Masivo ordered him to avail himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) every two days.

Loitiptip appeared in court to answer to charges relating a shooting incident in Nanyuki Town, Laikipia County. The senator is accused of shooting woman on her left leg during confrontation in a bar.

Anwar, who had reportedly gone missing after the incident surrendered to the police on Sunday, October 24. He was then held in the station where he was questioned.

He appeared before Nanyuki resident magistrate Vincent Masivo donned in a hoodie and dark shades and an arm band.

Joy Makena, a 32-year-old who was engaged in a confrontation, is nursing a gunshot wound on her right leg, just above her ankle. She was rushed to the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital where she is receiving treatment

The police revealed  that they acted on a tip-off from members of the public who reported that there was a shooting in the bar at 2am on Saturday, October 23.

The officers officers visited the scene where they recovered a fire arm that had 13 bullets from Senator Anwar’s security detail.

"Scene was processed and two spent catridges of 9mm recovered. Firearm body no.C987345 make CZ with 13 rounds of ammunition recovered," stated police report.
