The saloon car that was coming from town and heading towards Muthaiga police station, started emitting black soot from the engine area.

Reports also indicated that police officers had arrived at the scene and were helping manage the situation.

The incident took place just days after another vehicle burst into flames at Pangani area, Nairobi County.

Experts report that car fires are majorly caused by fuel leaks or short circuit of the battery, the battery terminal or electric cables of the vehicle.

They add that clothes used during maintenance and are stained with fuel, can also cause a fire, if accidentally left under the bonnet.

Further, experts warn that due to electric components in a car, drivers should check if the battery terminal is properly fixed.

They add that high-speed limits can increase the risk of fire in case of pre-existing faults because the car components heat up faster.
