The notice, however, noted that the closure would only affect the main campus and that activities at the institution's satellite campuses would remain uninterrupted.

Protests had erupted in Moi University on Monday, October 25, after lecturers took to the streets to make their grievances public.

The staff had not been paid for the last three months while the school's farm workers were yet to receive their 13-month salaries.

The lecturers called on the government to listen to their plight, failure to which they would not go back to class.

The tutors demanded University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kosgey's audience, saying that he ought to explain why they had not been paid.

In addition, they demanded the an overhaul of the University's leadership.
