Classic 105 show host, Mike Mondo, will undergo surgery on Friday, October 29, after he was involved in an accident.

On Wednesday, October 27, the Classic Drive presenter stated that he broke his right hands metacarpal bones. He, however, did not disclose the cause of the accident.

Metacarpal bones are the five long bones of the hand between the carpal and the proximal phalanges of the hand that make up most of the palm.

“So I broke my right hand’s metacarpal bones. Surgery is on Friday. I cannot wait to get a whiff of that anaesthesia,” Mondo posted on his social media pages.

Mondo, shared photos of his injured and swollen hand while undergoing treatment at a leading city hospital.

“My hand looks like a pumpkin,” he joked, adding that he was scheduled to receive a pain management injection.

Doctors advise that an individual with a metacarpal fracture that requires operative stabilisation is usually taken to the operating room and either sedated or placed under general anaesthesia.

This procedure allows the patient to relax and when the fracture is treated. The fracture ends can be realigned and pinned without a large incision. However, sometimes an incision is needed and direct visualisation of the fracture ends is achieved.

The fracture is realigned under direct visualisation and then fixed in place with pins, screws or plates and screws before it is immobilized for a period of time to protect the incision.

The patient’s hand and wrist are, later on, immobilized in a splint, cast or sometimes a removable splint as it heals. Doctors periodically use radiographs to ensure the fracture maintains its proper alignment and continues to heal.

His colleague’s at Classic 105 wished him a quick recovery as he headed into the theatre

“Mike, get well soon. Quick recovery and see you soon,” they stated in a pre-recorded video.
