A Homa Bay court has sentenced seven men from Kisumu county to life behind bars for the "mob justice" murder of a suspected thief.
The accused were charged with having gone to the home of the late Emmanuel Odeny, accusing him of having stolen a motorbike that belonged to one of them.
Dragging him just outside his homestead, the crowd descended on Odeny, beating him using crude weapons to death.
The charged persons include Wycliffe Onyango, Kennedy Kisakwa, Tom Apunda, Samuel Eddan, Gabriel Onyango, Pius Ogina and Elvis Mumbo.
Presiding judge David Majanja gave the accused 14 days to appeal the ruling.
